I Hope You’re Happy in the End

·

I’ve always been a sucker for stories about friendship—especially the kind that starts with struggles and misunderstandings but blossoms into something beautiful. It reminds me of the golden age of TV shows like The O.C., One Tree Hill, and Gossip Girl. They don’t make shows like that anymore—or at least, not in the same way.

Recently, I watched Wicked, and it hit me right in the feels. Sure, the breathtaking visuals and that final scene gave me goosebumps, but what truly made the movie shine for me was the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba. Their bond felt so pure, and watching it evolve was both heartwarming and deeply satisfying.

There’s something so powerful about the way they root for each other despite their differences. That line in Defying Gravity where they sing, “I hope you’re happy in the end,” was such a heartfelt moment. It wasn’t just words—it was a sincere wish for the other’s happiness, even if their paths diverged.

Friendships like that feel rare these days. The kind of relationship where you can go through ups and downs, misunderstandings, and challenges, yet still genuinely wish the best for each other. If you’re lucky enough to have friends like that, cherish them. Take good care of those connections, because they’re worth more than gold.

The beauty of friendships like Glinda and Elphaba’s is that they remind us of what truly matters: the people who stand by us, challenge us, and wish us happiness, no matter where life takes us. Those are the relationships that make life richer.

So, here’s to the friends who make us better, who love us for who we are, and who, no matter the circumstances, hope we’re happy in the end.
